Publishing a competitor's full ladder is unusual and it is deliberate: the number that decides whether to hire us is on that list, not on ours.
The 10-to-20x gap that is the whole argument.
Human answering runs $1.49-$2.99 a minute. The AI voice infrastructure the entire market is built on runs $0.07-$0.31 a minute. That order-of-magnitude gap is the real economic case for an AI agent, and it holds regardless of which vendor you pick. It is also why the monthly sticker price is the wrong thing to compare: at 1,000 minutes a month PATLive charges $1,499 and the same minutes of AI cost roughly $140 in infrastructure.
When paying $1.49 a minute is the correct decision.
When the call needs judgment. A caller who is upset, a situation that is legally or medically sensitive, an exception nobody wrote a rule for — a person handles those and an AI does not, and pretending otherwise is how vendors lose customers permanently. Low volume also argues for PATLive: at thirty calls a month the pay-as-you-go plan costs less than any build and less than most subscriptions. Volume, and the need to touch your own systems, are what change the answer.
Is PATLive cheaper than Ruby?
Substantially, at every comparable tier. 500 minutes is $759 on PATLive and $1,725 on Ruby — 56% less for the same category of service. Smith.ai is not directly comparable because it bills per call rather than per minute; convert using your own average call duration.
Can an AI agent transfer to a live person?
Yes, and it should. We configure live transfer to your own team on defined triggers rather than to a stranger, so the caller who needs a person gets one and the routine ninety per cent never reaches your staff. Some businesses keep an answering service running behind the agent for exactly this reason, which is a sound setup.
