Every SMB operator has said the words "we'll call you back." Often they mean it. Almost never does it happen fast enough. We took the Lead Velocity Decay dataset (2,847 inbound SMB inquiries, 90 days, instrumented telephony) and isolated the median time at which a "we'll call you back" lead became functionally unrecoverable. Below 47 minutes from the missed call, the median operator can still recover the lead at a conversion rate above their cold-prospect baseline. Above 47 minutes, the lead converts at or below random — meaning the operator is just paying call-center time to chase customers who are now somebody else's customer.
